SUMMARY:Free Award Winning Documentary Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:The African American Cultural Society (AACS) and Seeking Insights for Solutions (SIS) are proud to partner in presenting A Binding Truth\, an award-winning documentary on racial reconciliation. \nThis powerful 90-minute film tells the true story of Jimmie\, who in 1965 became the first Black football star at an affluent Charlotte\, NC high school. His arrival thrust him into the center of one of the state’s most volatile civil rights battles. His classmate De observed the events and reflected on them in a college essay. Decades later\, church records revealed hidden connections between their families\, uncovering long-buried truths that continue to shape America’s legacy of slavery\, racial division\, and the hard work of healing. \nProgram Highlights:\n• Film Screening (90 minutes)\n• Interactive Commentary & Discussion immediately following the screening\n• Refreshments for purchase\, a cash bar\, and complimentary dessert snack \nSpecial Engagement:\nOn Sunday\, September 28 at 3:00 PM\, join us at AACS (or online) for a live Zoom interview with Jimmie\, De\, and filmmaker Lois Woehrie. They will answer questions and share deeper insights into their journey. Attendees at the screening will receive the Zoom link to participate from another location\, if preferred. However\, we hope you will join us again. \nAcknowledgements:\nThis screening is made possible through the generous support of the City of Palm Coast\, the Flagler County Cultural Council\, Florida Arts & Culture\, and CA2BC (Collective Action to Build Community\, Chicago)\, who made it possible for AACS to access this important documentary. The views expressed in the film and discussion are those of the presenters and not necessarily those of our grantors.
