Flagler County Celebrates Art, Community, and Conservation at Turtle Trail Artists Exhibition

Palm Coast, Fla. (January 14, 2026) — If there is one symbol that unites Flagler County’s love of art, nature, and community spirit, it is the sea turtle. That connection was on full display as Expressions Art Gallery on Colbert welcomed more than 150 guests for the opening reception of Turtle Trail Artists of Flagler County, a vibrant exhibition celebrating the artists behind the county’s beloved public art Sea Turtle Trail.

Hosted in partnership with the Flagler County Cultural Council, the reception was both festive and deeply meaningful. Guests mingled among sea turtle–inspired artworks created specifically for the exhibition by the original artists of the Flagler County Turtle Trail—a project that has become a signature draw for residents and visitors alike. Adding to the experience, Charboozie catered the event with elaborate charcuterie displays that drew almost as much admiration as the artwork itself.

Now overseen by the Flagler County Cultural Council, the Turtle Trail has been thoughtfully cultivated over nearly a decade by arts advocate Nancy Crouch, whose leadership and vision helped bring the project to life. A highlight of the afternoon came when Crouch was unexpectedly honored with a miniature replica of Claude, the very first loggerhead sea turtle on the Trail.

The presentation was made by the Flagler County Cultural Council in collaboration with artist
Tom Anastasio, co-artist of Claude. The unveiling drew audible gasps from the crowd and an
emotional response from Crouch, who was visibly moved by the tribute. “It is overwhelming to see how the arts community can come together to celebrate our artists and sponsors of The Turtle Trail,” said Crouch. “The curators of Art Expressions Gallery (three of whom are Turtle Trail artists) created a wonderful tribute to this public art project. I am beyond proud to be part of such a community-pleasing project that teaches and embraces art in a fun and whimsical manner.”

She added, “The surprise of being honored by my colleagues at the Flagler County Cultural Council with a miniature replica of our very first turtle on the Trail, CLAUDE, was an emotional and humbling moment for me. I am grateful to all my participating artists, especially the two who helped me launch this project: Tom Anastasio and Paul Beaulieu.”

Reflecting on the project’s beginnings, Crouch shared, “I’m reminded that nearly 8 years ago this project started with a conversation with Andi Barr, whom I had never met, who just came in to discuss the potential for a branding opportunity for the Palm Coast Arts Foundation… following upwith my friends and artists Tom Anastasio and Paul Beaulieu, who quickly understood the importance of this public art project, along with the long-time president of the Palm Coast Arts Foundation, Sam Perkovich, who sponsored this first turtle through Parkside Realty.”

Beyond its visual impact, the Turtle Trail has also become a powerful educational tool. Crouch has made it a priority to connect conservation and creativity, visiting summer camps to introduce young students to the turtles and the artists who created them. “Community is everything,” she said. “Be part of it; love where you live and live where you love.”

Gallery co-curator Jan Jackson expressed her enthusiasm for both the turnout and the collaboration with the Flagler County Cultural Council. “I’m getting rave reviews from friends today,” said Jackson. Turtle Trail Artists of Flagler County will remain on view at Expressions Art Gallery through February 21, 2026, with a limited number of pieces still available for purchase. For art lovers, conservation supporters, and anyone who loves Flagler County’s iconic sea turtles, the exhibition offers a heartfelt celebration creativity, collaboration, and community pride.

“We’re proud to help shine a spotlight on Flagler County’s vibrant arts, culture, and rich history,” said FC3 Chair Danielle Anderson.
